»Study for the Last Egoistic Performance«
Theatre exhibition by Mare Bulc
An announcement and two reviews from Slovenian newspapers
- DNEVNIK (Slovenian daily), December 16, 2005
… The project will be finished next year with the »Last Egoistic Performance« and the premiere on Sunday is sort of a preparation. Like Bulc himself said, the performance is caught in between two themes – re-thinking the authorship in theatre and at the same time questioning the transient nature of a(ny) theatre event.
Gregor Butala: ABOUT THE NATURE OF THEATRE / O NARAVI GLEDALIŠČA
- DELO (Slovenian daily), December 22, 2005
With this project … Mare Bulc sovereignly positioned himself in the context of contemporary performance art scene… Because the simultaneous presence at four locations is impossible, the viewer by default is only able to catch fragments separately from each other; different parts are being repeated several times but only to a certain degree, but still: the event in its wholeness remains concealed, and at the same time this is exactly why the structure of the wholeness can be completely revealed. Or better yet: the structure of the performance is structured by the viewer (for) him/herself and thereby s/he becomes the performance's co-author.
Blaž Lukan: MORE EGOISM / VEČ EGOIZMA
- DNEVNIK (Slovenian daily), December 27, 2005
… Theatre exhibition opens up present-day issues contemporary theatre is facing, and does that in a very unpretentious and down-to-earth way: the issues of what is an “open work” and its authorship, delegated and non-delegated presence and so on. … The event’s main attraction however is that it is like an uncut diamond and at the same time a serious yet relaxed and studious approach to the matter. A very promising beginning of a group of young artists who view theatre first and foremost as a place and opportunity for contemplation – and that is certainly the most valuable element of their research.
