No History :: Know History

Lecture/Performance

The unique one-time-only performance took place on June 12th, 2003, at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and TV (AGRFT) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, that the author visits. This performance had the form of lecture and was performed in one of the classrooms for theory contents at AGRFT. The “No History :: Know History” criticizes the issue of theoretic lectures at AGRFT and their professors. The underestimating relation to the students and superficial lecturing culminated in the statement of one of the AGRFT professors who actually suggested the students:“Don’t read these books (about theory and history of theatre, MB note). These are really big books.”Author of performance went one step further from the statement and presented to the audience a book funeral and berial. The statement is, apart from the word “history” projected on the white board, the only text in the lecture/performance. The taped statement is repeated over and over again, reduced and in the end shortened to: “Don’t read!”
